Despite the advancement of modern production methods and visually appealing graphics, the practicality of the original flour sack towels endures. Mary Lake-Thompson, an art student at the University of Colorado and the San Francisco Art Institute, met her husband Richard in the 1970s and embarked on a journey that transitioned from selling original prints at local art shows to establishing a nationally recognized brand. Mary Lake-Thompson, Ltd. has expanded its product line to include soaps, aprons, bath products, drawer liners, sachets, napkins, hats, and their renowned flour sack towels. Based in Oroville, California, the company now employs approximately 50 individuals. Mary's daughter, Sara, carries on the family tradition with her own contemporary twist on classic housewares through Montgomery Street Designs.
